4 Ways How Empathy In Travels Can Improve Your Life

Empathy is self-serving. It’s good for you while simultaneously being helpful to the ends you seek. Your empathic responses while traveling will also help build empathy in the people you meet. Together, you and they can understand the world a little better. Here is how you can develop and cultivate your empathic capability:

1.Listen to their story.

The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen (secretly sings Beyonce’s “Listen” to motivate yourself!). Perhaps the most important thing we ever give to other people is our attention.

2.Slowing down, putting the devices away and being present.

Have you ever had friends who just need to update their Facebook status and Instagram immediately? I guess most of us have been there at some point, but now it is time to put away those devices and just be in the moment. Be present to share the moment with others around you.

3.Setting aside and suspending your judgment.

Putting away your judgemental personality makes you a positive person. Being a positive person, you get to encourage one or another. Positivity is all you need to pack and bring home with you.

4.Seeking out and speaking to strangers whose lives and worldviews are vastly different than your own.

Whether you are on a 32 hours journey train, or having a drink at a local bar, try to reach out the locals and ask them about their cultures, customs, or what they make for a living. I am sure you will see the difference between both worlds.
